Hoof Tester 19" Hoof Tester is used for hoof examination to find a tender spot or abscess on a horse’s foot. It is used to determine the location of a painful area in the foot of a lame horse. It can also be used to locate bruised or punctured areas of the foot, or to diagnose foot bone diseases or injuries. Hoof examination should be systematic, consistent, and should cover all points of the hoof. A sequence of points should be tested from time to time in order to avoid any thing missed; same amount of pressure must be applied each time, to keep variables to a minimum. A positive response could be reflex withdrawal of the foot and a true pain response is infinitely repeatable. Usage: To test for a foot problem, place the end of one jaw on the suspected area the other on the outside of the wall, and exert pressure in that area by closing the handles. The horse's reaction to the pressure in that area is the basis for the diagnosis of lameness. A sound hoof should be compared to the lame one to determine each individual horse's response to pain.
